The definitive line up of Nigel Clark, Andy Miller and Mathew Priest is back......... The first time round, Dodgy were only together for seven years but in that time they sold over a million records worldwide, released three albums and 12 Top 40 singles, including 3 Top 10s and the Top 5 hit Good Enough, still a staple of the Radio 2 playlist; sold out the Brixton Academy for three nights in a row and were awarded an unprecedented 90-minute Saturday evening slot on the Pyramid stage at Glastonbury Festival in 1997 just before Radiohead. Not bad, considering that they also partied harder than an Ewok. As anyone who has seen them so far this year will tell you, the Mighty Dodgy Vibe is back and stronger than ever. Danny Mahon is the antithesis of tradional folk music. No gentle, mellow tunes evoking images of English country charm, Danny is full, in yer face, punk played acoustically. The lyrics are explicit reflections of inner city life - not always comfortable on the ears. The music is a full rip roaring sound, not surprising given the musicians who helped out giving a 'full band sound'. His double A side single 'Beat Me Up/AK47', self released on Piccadilly Records boasts an array of local musicians including Rick Lees (Twisted Wheel), Ben Taylor (Vagner Love), Johnny Winbolt - Lewis (Keith) and Tom Peek (Kid British). Jez Kerr is bass guitarist, songwriter and vocalist of A Certain Ratio, the band he formed in Manchester in 1977 with three friends - Simon Topping, Peter Terrell and Martin Moscrop - who bonded over a shared love of Northern soul, Kraftwerk and Brian Eno, taking their name from a line in the Eno song A True Wheel. Signed for pretty much all of their career to Factory and then Rob’s Records, their repertoire includes classics like “Shack Up”, “Won’t Stop Loving You”, “Wild Party” and “27 Forever”. ACR’s cult following and appeal has never dimmed with Soul Jazz Recordings re-issuing ACR’s early albums in the Noughties. However, Kerr is the only member who remains a full-time musician. A digital-only single, Play Sumthing Fast, was released by North Wales based indie Higuera Records February last year, and another, Rip You Right Back came out at the end of May, with his critically acclaimed debut solo album Numb Mouth Eat Waste released in September. The album was voted one of the top ten albums of last year by New York’s Freethinking Movement alongside albums by Radiohead, Kate Bush, PJ Harvey and the Beastie Boys. The Family Bizarre features ex-Fall, Stone Roses and Ian Brown drummer Simon Wolstencroft, New Order tour DJ Tintin on keyboards, Higuera Records Keo Martin on guitar and The Beating Wing Orchestra’s Lis Murphy on Violin and Vocals. The Rainband formed in December 2009 when lead singer Martin Finnigan commenced writing with long time friend & former Monaco (Peter Hook) guitarist Phil Rainey. The band were then joined by Steve Irlam (drums) & Paul Daggatt (bass). Their line up complete, the band have fast tracked to prominence in the Manchester scene. Through 2010, they established themselves as one of Manchester finest emerging talents playing support slots to the likes out the Fall, Badly Drawn boy & Simple Minds in some seminal venues across the country. In addition to the supports, the band also headlined & sold out the Manchester Academy underlining the belief the city has in their music. The Manchester Evening News described them as "The emerging force in the Manchester music scene". With backing & support from Manchester legends like Peter Hook, Elbow, Andy Rourke & Terry Christian, 2011 is set up to be a major year. With a host of London labels expressing interest, the band showed their commitment to the city by signing to Manchester label Affinity Records in December 2010.

The Narrows make dark futuristic electro guilt pop, and they do it with drumloops, synths and loud guitars. In 2011 they played T in The Park, FOM Fest and Eurocultured, headlined the O2 Academy2 in London and The Ruby Lounge in Manchester with support slots for PVT, S.C.U.M and Gallops. Sly Digs
Sly Digs are a young energetic four-piece, wowing crowds at live shows with their enigmatic lyrics and contageous foot tapping indie rock n roll beats. With a sound like cross between early Arctic Monkey’s, and Oasis’s, later; more gritty sound. The tunes are well polished, their energy is blistering, and their front man Dean Fairhurst has a voice raw enough that brings these songs to their maximum potential. With tunes such as ‘Electric Love’ and ‘Rock ‘n’ Roll (Turn Me On) they’ll get the blood pumping and the head bobbing. They are an excellent listen. Chameleons Vox features vocalist and principle composer Mark Burgess and Chameleons drummer John Lever, who are joined by long time collaborator on Mark’s 1994 solo project Sons of God, Neil Dwerryhouse on guitar, and from the Manchester band Bushart, guitarist Chris Oliver and bassist Ray Bowles. Ladies and gentlemen, meet The Penelopes. Friends since birth and raised practically as brothers, Axel Basquiat and Vincent T (for it is they) hail from Paris and make the kind of sun-kissed, effortless electro-tinged indie anthems that belie the fact that they're musical upbringing was based almost completely on British bands such as The Cocteau Twins and New Order. Born in the north of Paris, in the same apartment block, they didn't really 'meet', they've just always known each other. “It was like a brother, you never say 'oh, I met him at one or two'. I've always lived with or near Axel. It's very strange and rare” explains Vincent.

Whipping Boy It happens about as regularly as a sighting of Halley's Comet - a band of luminous distinction streaks away from the mediocre herd and, fuelled by a combination of 10-ton talent and ferocious self-belief, triumphs over impossible odds and heads straight for the stars.... Whipping Boy are an influential Irish rock music band who were active in the 1980s and 1990s. 2011 has seen Whipping Boy emerge again, and 2011 brings the Periscopes Up tour, with Joey(bass) and Finn(guitar) in the band, and long time live guitarist Killian McGowan will complete the line up.

Being hard to pigeon hole is something that this band thrive upon. For the melting pot of funk, reggae, blues and down right rock'n'roll, is what differentiates Selective Service from the rest of the pack. Forming in 2009, the band spent their first 18 months together pounding the highways of their native Scotland supporting great acts along the way, including Sons & Daughters, The Jim Jones Revue, The Heavy and The Hours, earning well deserved plaudits from all of these peers. 2009 ended with a triumphant set at George Square during Winterfest to over a thousand fans. 2010 saw the band playing over 100 gigs and cutting their first disc at La Chunky Studios. Released in November 2010, the eponymous debut EP has sold out and the launch night was over subscribed. Their next effort, entitled You Best Believe will be released in April 2011 with a host of promotional activities planned, most notably a performance at Pretty Green's Glasgow boutique. Kasabian tour DJ Dan Martin is also booked to play at the EP launch night, with Serge Pizzorno having given his personal approval. The YuYa are Constance Dalrymple and Eliseo Soardi, formed in 2008 after a chance meeting at a fancy dress wedding, they play acoustic fuelled, avant-garde, toe-tapping, indie-folk music. They recorded their debut album in Italy in the summer 2010, which they plan to release in the summer of 2011 on Day Job Records, preceded by two singles, the first of which is titled “Naked” which was released on 16th May 2011 on download and limited edition 7" vinyl. Since their first gig in Kilburn they have played over 150 shows across the UK and Europe and a Festival in Casamance, Senegal. With UK and European summer tour dates to be announced soon (including the Secret Garden Party) and regular radio play already on the BBC, independent and student radio stations, momentum towards the release of their album in the summer is building. Bethia Beadman
Bethia Beadman has a sound and presence so breathtaking you won’t ever be able to stop listening – or to look away. Her songs smoulder with honesty, and her tantalising voice always tells the truth. She has been compared by critics to icons such as PJ Harvey, Bonnie Prince Billy and Anna Calvi. Pure, classic and endlessly deep she has sung in the Vatican and supported Pete Doherty. Bethia recorded her debut album, Made Of Love, while working at the Hospital Studio in London on albums by REM and Depeche Mode. In 2011, the video for her song Fire won the Gold Prize Award for Best Music Video at the Alameda Film Festival, San Francisco. During the same year, she played Glastonbury and Isle of Wight festivals.
