Paul
Haig
For two brief years at the dawn of the 1980s Josef
K gave the Postcard label its sharpest cutting edge. Although outlived
– and outsold - by labelmates Orange Juice and Aztec Camera,
Josef K's flame burned brightest, while their influence has touched
bands as diverse as Propaganda and the Wedding Present. Yet just
as interesting are the subsequent solo careers of all four members,
which include stints with Orange Juice, Aztec Camera and 4AD outfit
the Happy Family. Not to mention the undervalued body of solo work
produced by enigmatic frontman Paul Haig.
Belle & Sebastian's Richard Colburn
Richard Colburn brings his set of retro soul, mod
classics, foot stomping funk and some truly surprising obscurities
to Brave Music. An ace Dj away from the drum kit, Richard gets the
floor shaking.
Tintin
NO-ONE
rocks a party like DJ Tintin.
The legendary Manchester spinmaster has been ripping the roof off
clubs foralmost 20 years with his super-deluxe mix of chunky club
classics and funky indie-dance anthems.Tintin was one of the prime
movers of the Madchester scene and remains one of the most well-known
and respected DJs on the circuit. Tintin has an impeccable pedigree.
In fact if there was an award for longevity, Tintin would surely
win it. Starting on the wheels of steel back in the heady days of
1987, Tintin was instrumental in bringing dance music to the Manchester
masses when acid house hit in the summer of love. A prime mover
in the dance-music explosion of the late 80s and early 90s, he was
resident at Manchester¬πs legendary Boardwalk club and
together with ex-DJ partner Dave Haslam, their OEFreedom¬π
night was named the number one club night in the country. When Haslam
made his return to the Hacienda, he took Tintin with him and Tintin
manned the Hacienda decks at the very height of the Madchester era.
His pedigree as one of the forerunners of the Indie-Dance explosion
of the late 80s and early 90s is unshakeable. But he has continued
to rock dancefloors all over the world, continually proving his
versatility by running house nights, breakbeat nights, balearic
funk nights and most memorably, the legendary indie-dance night
Stone Love. Tintin, credited with inspiring today's generation of
superstar DJs, is one of a rare breed of DJ - one who can have any
crowd eating out of his hand. Just let him loose on the decks and
watch him go! Tintin has recently found himself warming-up for New
Order at their gigs and was this year honoured with the top DJ slot
at the Manchester v Cancer event at the Manchester Evening News
Arena - the event which brought together all the biggest names in
Manchester music at Europe's biggest indoor arena. Tintin plays
music from right across the board you can expect him to spin a mash-up
of styles and he really does play to a crowd. From old-school house
to electro to Indie stompers, Tintin, whose technical skills on
the decks have punters drooling is the man who can, and does, every
time.
